There are a lot of worthwhile causes out there but they all require you to do something: run, walk, bike, etc. Finally there is an opportunity to help a great cause and do nothing. You don’t even have to shave!Put down the razor this holiday season and support lung cancer research. If you can’t grow a beard, support somebody that can. How does it work?Beards for Hope is a four week beard growing throwdown that will result in the identification of the manliest of men. The competition starts on Wednesday, November 23rd when each grower submits a photo with a clean shaven face. Progress photos will be submitted each Wednesday for the next four weeks and posted on this website.A grower must raise a minimum of $100 in donations from his supporters to be eligible for one of four awards: Best Beard, Best Photo, Most Donations Raised and everybody's favorite - Ugliest Beard.The Rules1. Grower registration deadline is Monday, November 21. To register send an email to beardsforhope_gmail.com 2. Grower must establish a fundraising page on the Beards for Hope fundraising website (directions will be sent to each grower after he registers)3. Grower will shave his face clean on Wednesday, November 23 (day before Thanksgiving) and send his photo to beardsforhope_gmail.com4. Progress photos will be submitted by 6:00 p.m. on Wednesdays for the next four weeks. The final photo will be submitted on Wednesday, December 215. To create an equal playing field only standard beards are allowed (mustaches, chops, etc. are good for a laugh but this is a beard competition)6. Award winners will be announced on Thursday, December 22

To be eligible for one of four awards (Best Beard, Best Photo, Most Donations Raised, Ugliest Beard) a grower must raise a minimum of $100 from his supporters. Supporting a beard is easy. All you have to do is:1. Go to the Beards fundraising website2. Select your favorite beard3. DonateAll donations will go directly to A Breath for Hope Lung Founation. Your donation is tax deductible. A receipt will be issued immediately after payment is received. Other ways to support Beards for Hope:Spread the word. Direct family and friends to this website and encourage them to donate.
ABOUT
BEARDS FOR HOPE
Beards for Hope is administered by the Spence family in honor of Laurie Spence. Laurie was a devoted wife and loving mother that loved the holiday season. Beards for Hope started in November 2010 as a fun way to honor Laurie's life during her favorite time of year. In its initial year, 30 growers and a large group of supporters raised over $7,000 to fight lung cancer. Beards for Hope donates 100% of its proceeds to A Breath of Hope Lung Foundation. ABOHLF is dedicated to fighting lung cancer by funding innovative lung cancer research and promoting community involvement through education and patient support. Andy Spence currently serves as a board member of the organization.
